What is Ving Tsun?

Ving Tsun, also known as Wing Chun, is a traditional Chinese martial art based on efficiency, structure, timing and practical self-defence. Its early history is the subject of different accounts, but the art became internationally recognised through the Ip Man lineage.

Who was Ip Man?

Ip Man was a highly respected Ving Tsun teacher from Foshan, China, who later moved to Hong Kong. He helped establish one of the most influential Ving Tsun traditions in the world. One of his famous students was Bruce Lee, whose international success helped introduce Chinese martial arts to millions of people.

What makes Ving Tsun different?

Ving Tsun does not depend on being big, strong or having a muscular physique. Instead, it teaches you to use structure, positioning, timing, sensitivity and efficient body mechanics to make the most of your natural movement.

This makes Ving Tsun suitable for men and women, regardless of size, strength or previous martial arts experience. Training can improve fitness, coordination, balance, confidence, concentration and awareness while developing practical skills.

You don't need to be super-fit, super-strong or experienced to start. Just come along, learn the principles and let your training develop from there.
